Simple Pumpkin Spice Latte (Pumpkin Flavor Base To Add To ANY Coffee!)
Simple Pumpkin Spice Latte (With REAL Pumpkin)
Y’all all know by now that Starbucks is not the only place to get your PSL fix. In fact, this recipe has been SOOO amazing, that I haven’t been to Starbucks once this entire fall season. (P.S. Fall starts end of July for me, haha!)
You can ditch all the necessary ingredients and enjoy this no fuss, super simple Pumpkin Spice Latte that you can make at home! Bonus, you can use drip coffee, french press, or even instant coffee! It really is a versatile recipe.
Ingredient You’ll Need For Your Pumpkin Spice Latte
Pumpkin (the star of the show!)
Obviously the first ingredient is going to be…pumpkin! I typically will use canned pumpkin (I love the organic pumpkin you can buy from Costco). This recipe will also work really well with homemade pumpkin puree. If you’d like to learn how to make your own pumpkin puree, check out this blog here.
Pumpkin Pie Spice
When I am short on time, premade pumpkin spice works amazingly in this recipe! If you’d like to learn how to make your own pumpkin spice blend ( it’s really easy!) then click here to learn how to do that.
Cinnamon
Even though we have the pumpkin spice blend in this recipe, I always like to add a little extra cinnamon for those cozy fall flavors.
Hot Water
We will use the hot water to blend in with the pumpkin puree and spices. This helps make it smooth and delicious when you’re drinking your coffee and you don’t have chunks of pumpkin fiber ( that would not be very pleasant!)
Milk Of Choice
We use whole milk (raw when available) in this recipe. This recipe is easily adapted to any milk of choice you would like to use!
Coffee
What is a pumpkin spice latte without the coffee?! The amazing thing about this recipe is it’s flexibility. I use it with my lattes in espresso, I’ve used it with my French press, I used it with a drip coffee. All you need is whatever form of coffee you typically make at your home.
Blackstrap Molasses (optional)
Blackstrap molasses is an amazing addition filled with health benefits like iron. I love adding this for its hint of richness that it adds to my coffee. When I do not have blackstrap molasses this recipe still turns out delicious. I’m all for flexibility so if you have it use it, if not no biggie.
Sweetener of choice
Truly any sweetener that you are comfortable using is perfectly fine. As you’ll see in the recipe I don’t add the sweetener to my “ pumpkin syrup” but I add it to the coffee separately. I do this because some mornings I prefer no sugar or sweetener in my coffee and I like the flexibility. this recipe you can either add it to your individual cup of coffee or to the “ pumpkin syrup”
Tools and Equipment
Espresso Machine (or any coffee Maker)
As mentioned above you can make this latte with any sort of coffee. I use my Breville Express espresso machine literally multiple times a day. I also have used this recipe with cold brew concentrate, drip coffee, French press, and even instant coffee!
You will need a high-powered blender or food processor for this recipe to make sure that the fibers in the pumpkin are broken down nicely. My Vitamix has served me well for over 10 years and still going strong!
Mason Jar To Store Pumpkin Spice “Syrup”
You can’t come to a Blog named real and rustic without mentioning a mason jar! I use a 16 oz mason jar and these lids for easy storage. (Because if you haven’t had your coffee yet.. everything needs to be easy!)
Milk Frother
I use the milk frother that is a part of my Breville espresso machine. They make all sorts of wonderful ones on Amazon, here is one that my sister uses that has served her well.
Step-by-Step Instructions
It almost seems silly to write out the instructions for how simple this recipe is. but here we go!
Step 1: Combine pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, molasses, sweetener of choice (if you’re adding it), and hot water to a blender. You’ve just made your Pumpkin Latte Flavor Base!
Step 2: Add all those ingredients to your mason jar and seal the lid. see? easy as pie!
To make your latte:
Step 1: Simply make your preferred coffee and add in your Pumpkin Latte Flavor Base that you just made. I find that even when I put it in the fridge and it’s cold, it doesn’t seem to cool down my coffee any. You may need to warm it up with a bit of hot water if you find that it cools your coffee down too much.
Step 2: Froth your milk and add it to the top then you can dust some cinnamon on top if you are feeling extra fancy!
